hathor.

hathor industries.
The original terraforming company that went with humanity's scramble to the stars, Hathor Industries now has, as the saying goes, a finger in all the pies. From security software to hardware, to weaponry, to military contracts; to industrial espionage, to R&D, to advancements in jumpdrives, Hathor does it all. (Think Google.) Along with having several privately-owned space stations, satellites and colonies (mining, research, etc), Hathor also experienced a public blunder but also resulting boost in public opinion when they took responsibility for neurogenics and their related chronic pain. Their primary headquarters encompasses a whole moon, Lystra, one of six that circles the planet of Aren.

All crew members of the Palmyra work for Hathor, and likely call Lystra home.

neurogenics.
Found most often in planets with high rates of terraforming, neurogenics are often seen as being born with a 'birth defect'. Hathor Industries, as the lead in terraforming technologies, have admitted to this and as a result of a class-action lawsuit, all neurogenics are taken for three days to the facility after birth. Most are sent back 'cured' and without any trace of neurogenic ability. Others, through genetic testing, are 'sponsored' throughout their lives by the company, under the claim that their defects are extensive. They are given training and scholarships to schools, so it is unsurprising that a large amount of neurogenics either come to work for Hathor Industries or the military. Neurogenics are limited telekinetics, and with enough training (read: Hathor intervention) can even blast people back, or generate fields (visualized as refracted lights) that amplify their punches.

No neurogenic, no matter how much training they achieve, is capable of complex telekinesis (i.e., lifting anything heavier than, say, a gun), since the strain is too much for one individual. All of them experience severe migraines, nausea, and fever as a result of having neurogenic abilities.
